Units and checkpoints on Duolingo have long been some of the most important references of where you’re at in your target language. That also being said, no one actually speaks MSA anyway so this would provide you with structural knowledge that is beneficial, but not always essential. ![]() That said, Duolingo’s Arabic course is mostly directed at MSA learners, and although I tested past the first lessons, it was apparent that the instructions of all the rules wasn’t at 100% perfect yet. Duolingo tries to replicate this experience by presenting words and sentences to you and asking you to recall their meaning. Children don't learn the grammar of their first language, they just listen and mimic. ![]() I wouldn’t write off Duolingo at all-it’s a really great resource for any language you are learning because the most important thing when learning a language is to get a little bit, consistently (every day, every few days, etc), and Duolingo is great for that because you can slowly go through the lessons at low commitment. Duolingo is built on the theory that adults can (and some believe should) learn languages like children. Answer: I really wouldn’t advise trying to learn a language with Duolingo, it’s a waste of time that just teaches you some vocabulary lists about random topics. The proficiency of a test taker is assessed on a scale of 160 points, with 5 point increments. If you’re just starting out, you can learn the letters and rules from Alif Baa and then supplement that with Duolingo for a fairly low money and time commitment. The Duolingo English Test evaluates your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. I have been learning Arabic via college classes, private lessons, and immersion programs for a few years.
